Introduction

Access to information is empowering! However, wrong information can misguide us, and an overload of information can confuse us. Many of us know how hard it is to stay afloat when we are flooded by thousands of emails, Twitter and Facebook updates and whatever else on a daily basis!

This blog is an attempt to offer accurate, timely and relevant information that will help you to resolve commonly faced problems relating to public services. Need to know how to lodge a complaint in a case of taxi refusal? Need to contact the Municipal office for the disposal of a dead dog? Want to know the status of your passport application through RTI? We are creating an index of all the relevant information right here!! (And if we do not have the information you seek then please leave a message and we will try our best to supply you with it.)

Every fortnight, a simple step-by-step guide on various public services will be posted. Contributors will include:

  1. Experts from specialised fields
  2. Relevant newspaper articles will be posted with due acknowledgement
  3. You can also join in and contribute posts in your specialised area(s). Posts will go up on the blog once approved by the moderating board

Recalling the famous Chinese proverb “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; show him how to catch a fish and you feed him for a lifetime” we collectively attempt to empower citizens in West Bengal through relevant information. We seek your support and active participation in achieving this goal so please do write to us regarding the type of information or steps that you would like to know from us! Kindly subscribe to our mailing list to ensure every post reaches your mailbox. We also have a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/foryourinformationkolkata?fref=ts) and a Twitter handle (https://twitter.com/FYIKolkata) which we urge you to follow.

To sustain our initiatives, kindly visit and buy educational products like note books and books at nomial prices at http://www.sahajpath.net

And, of course, the blog will be bilingual. Posts will be written in both Bengali and English.
